NEET (UG) 2026 Cancelled: Official Announcement
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination that was conducted on 3 May 2026. This decision was taken after reviewing investigative inputs from central agencies and law-enforcement authorities.
In a press release issued on 10 May 2026, NTA stated that the integrity of the examination process could not be assured based on the findings received. To maintain transparency and fairness in the national examination system, the agency decided to cancel the exam and conduct it again on new dates, which will be announced soon.
The decision was approved by the Government of India.
Why the Exam Was Cancelled
According to the official statement, NTA had earlier referred certain matters related to the examination to central agencies on 8 May 2026 for independent verification.
After examining the inputs and investigative findings, authorities concluded that the existing examination results could not be allowed to stand. Maintaining credibility and fairness in the national examination system was cited as the primary reason behind the cancellation.
CBI Inquiry Ordered
To ensure a thorough investigation, the Government of India has decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI will conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations and circumstances surrounding the examination. NTA has stated that it will fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all required records and materials.
